Case Studies
City of Minneapolis, Minnesota
AMS undertook a major planning project for the City of Minneapolis, titled the Minneapolis Plan for Arts & Culture. The focus of the project was on roles and responsibilities of the city government in relation to the city's thriving arts community (which has largely grown absent city leadership).
Working with the Center for the Study of Art & Community, a series of Open Space forums were held, at which time several hundred participants were involved in developing an agenda for the city's response. Major focal areas were intended to include neighborhood and community-based programs, city codes and zoning ordinances, city funding sources and opportunities, roles of major institutions and grass-roots program providers, and issues surrounding the built environment. A regional component wass also present as, obviously, the City of Minneapolis is a leader within the Twin Cities region.
The project concluded in 2004 with primary research, planning meetings, and subcommittee research.
