Scottsdale Museum of the West

museum-of-the-west.jpgFeasibility Study and Concept Plan

A group of citizens in Scottsdale (''The West's Most Western Town'') has for many years striven to create a museum dedicated to western art. Throughout the 1990s, several studies were conducted and finally, in 2002, the City of Scottsdale designated a site in the historic downtown core.

In 2006, AMS Planning & Research was retained to reevaluate the prior studies and develop a plan for a feasible project. Work conducted included market studies, collections research, a facilities plan, fundraising feasibility analysis and forecasts of cost for development and operation.

The proposed museum, now named Museum of the West, with a theme of ''Where the Old West Meets the New West,'' will recount the history of the West through the eyes of the artists, ranging from the time of the first people to contemporary times. Fundraising and design are underway with a projected opening in 2012.
