GableStage seeks a progressive, visionary Producing Artistic Director to lead this established institution effective immediately, although the successful applicant can request a flexible start date based on current conditions. As the cutting edge of theatre in South Florida for the past 20 years, GableStage is renowned for presenting the most vital works of contemporary playwrights. GableStage has presented premieres and regional premieres of the most vital works of contemporary playwrights and has won countless awards. Although most productions are produced independently, GableStage welcomes co-creations and co-productions with other internationally recognized organizations such as Tarell Alvin McCraney’s radical new adaptation of Antony and Cleopatra with The Public Theater (New York) and Royal Shakespeare Company (London). GableStage’s mission is to provide South Florida with classical, contemporary, and original theatrical productions of artistic excellence while embracing the South Florida multi-cultural community.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Producing Artistic Director is responsible for guiding the artistic vision and direction, overseeing all aspects of the institution and organizational execution, and delivery of services GableStage provides to the community. Breadth of knowledge and commitment to a full range of theater, with notable emphasis on contemporary, cutting edge work that addresses the issues of our time, as well as proven leadership experience reflecting understanding of the critical intersection of artistic choices, audience engagement and financial outcomes are a must.
